South African Revenue Services

(SARS)

The revenue services are normally known for taking money from people to fill the government’s pockets, but the South African Revenue Services (SARS) acted totally differently on World AIDS day, the 1st of December 2003: Rose Pezisa and Marcia Mkhize from the KwaZulu/Natal Provincial SARS office had come to Blessed Gérard’s Care Centre previously and were so impressed with our work that they started collecting clothing, household goods and money amongst the SARS employees to support the AIDS work in our province. We were one of four beneficiaries in the whole province and are most grateful for their donation, which was handed over at the SARS offices in Durban by Patricia Molefe from SARS head office in Pretoria.

Afterwards they paid us a visit at Blessed Gérard’s Care Centre and the picture shows that we welcomed not only their donation, but these lovely people, too.
