A giant washing machine and tumble drier

received as a donation from Lions-Hilfswerk Oberpfläzer Wald e.V.

will help us at Blessed Gérard's Care Centre tremendously to cope with our huge amount of laundry.

Currently we are using four large household washing machines and two large household tumble driers to cope with the laundry for up to 40 inpatients in Blessed Gérard's Hospice and 41 children in Blessed Gérard's Children's Home. These machines work from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. 7 days a week to cope with the high demand that a house full of children and terminally sick patients causes. The machines keep breaking down as they are not made for continuous use and overcapacity.

Therefore the offer of these huge second hand machines from Lions international in Teunz / Germany came like a bucket of water for a dehydrated man: A real and true relief and great help.

Having the machines weighing more than a ton (1088 kg) donated, but located in Bavaria, is one thing, but getting such a huge load shipped over to Zululand in South Africa is another story. The Lions-Hilfswerk brought the machines to Nuremberg.

There it was Cargolux Airlines International S.A. from Luxembourg who helped us once again, but this time in such a great way: The Lions-Hilfswerk brought the machines to Nuremberg on 30 October 2009. Cargolux transported them from Nuremberg to Luxembourg and flew the cargo from there totally free of charge for us to Johannesburg.

There it was Global Aviation Management Services who cleared the shipment for us with customs and transported it to us at reasonable cost.

It was on 3rd December 2009 that the machines finally arrived at Blessed Gérard's Care Centre. But how are we supposed to get such a heavy load off the truck?

http://www.worldprintforum.org/printing-association/sappi.jpgAs the next angel SAPPI Kraft (Pty) Ltd Tugela Mill came to our rescue and sent a forklift to Blessed Gérard's Care Centre to unload the machines.

Now we are left with the task to expand our laundry to accommodate the huge machines as they are even too big to fit through the existing laundry doors. We are confident that the alterations can be done early in 2010 and the machines commissioned then.

We would like to say a wholehearted "Thank you" to

for your most wonderful help, your compassion and your friendship!
