Blessed Gérard's Care Centre and Hospice

The South African Relief Organisation of the Order of Malta or Order of St. John of Jerusalem, which was founded as a medieval brotherhood of chivalry by Blessed Gérard Tonque 900 years ago. Blessed Gérard's is a charity-based society dedicated to the common good and welfare of all people. A "public benefit organisation operated not for profit", on the voluntary service of its members. It is an instrument of the Church to serve Jesus in the poor and to bring God's love to the needy through its service. Blessed Gérard's runs about 13 projects in the Eshowe diocese, including a hospice (South Africa's largest), children's home, AIDS education programme, malnutrition clinic and bursary fund.
