Care centre has a face-lift

On the celebration of the feast of St. John the Baptist, Bishop Xolelo Kumalo of Eshowe blessed and opened the new-look Blessed Gérard's Care Centre (BGCC). The centre in Mandeni , KwaZulu-Natal, underwent six major extensions. These include a clinic, administration and staff accommodation and a fully equipped kitchens for the two children's homes at the centre.

The Brotherhood of Bl. Gérard is presently South Africa's only affiliate of the Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of Saint John of Jerusalem, of Rhodes and of Malta (known as the Sovereign Military Order of Malta), a global Catholic relief service organisation which traces its roots to the foundation by Bl Gérard Tonque in Jerusalem in 1099.

The Brotherhood of Bl. Gérard in Mandeni was founded in 1992, and acknowledged as a Relief Organisation of the Order of Malta a year later. It opened its care centre in 1996.
