Bishop Biyase joins Relief Organisation

Almost seven years ago the Brotherhood of Blessed Gérard was founded in Mandeni.

The Brotherhood of Blessed Gérard is the South African relief organisation of the Order of Malta, which is based in Rome and is presently celebrating it's ninth centenary of working throughout the world to alleviate sickness and poverty.

The organisation has a comprehensive programme of eight self-help projects, which were initiated to help break the vicious circle of poverty in the greater Mandeni area.

The executive of the Brotherhood of Blessed Gérard was very happy and proud to have received the application from Bishop Mansuet Biyase. By applying, he indicated that he did not only want to support their work in words but that he would like to take an active role in the organisation.

Bishop Biyase was decorated three years ago, by the Order of Malta, for his support of the work of the Brotherhood of Blessed Gérard. He was awarded the Grand Cross for Pious Merits, the highest decoration, which the Order of Malta can give to a member of the clergy.

Further information about the Brotherhood of Blessed Gérard is available on its website http://www.smom-za.org/
