Registered Professional  Nurse

Our Programme is about to move into our newly built HAART Clinic:

Framework and aims

The employee will work according to the purpose of the Brotherhood of Blessed Gérard as laid out in the statutes of the Brotherhood of Blessed Gérard and the objectives and activities of Blessed Gérard's Care Centre, as laid out in the Constitution for Blessed Gérard's Care Centre.

Tasks

The employee will engage herself in all nursing tasks of Blessed Gérard's Hospice HAART Programme in cooperation with the medical doctor, other nursing and care giving staff and volunteers.

The employee's tasks include especially:

• assisting the medical doctor with all aspects of the HAART programme,

• co-operating with and being part of the HAART management team,

• Pre- and post-HIV-test counselling and testing (VCT),

• Adherence and treatment progress monitoring and follow-up testing

The employee is responsible for keeping adequate medical records of all the patients' treatment and progress.

The employee is responsible for keeping adequate and correct records of medication given to patients.

The employee will work within the scope of practise for registered professional nurses as laid down by the South African Nursing Council and undertake to notify management if anybody would ask her to perform tasks beyond the said scope of practice.

• Registration as a registered professional nurse with the South African Nursing Council
• good nursing skills
• Organisational ability
• Leadership skills
• Fluency in English
• Ability to work within a team
• Positive attitude towards the Roman Catholic Church

It will be of advantage if you

• speak Zulu
• have experience in antiretroviral treatment
• have already absolved the Course of the Foundation For Professional Development - HIV-AIDS for Professional Nurses
• are computer literate
• have a dispensing licence
